Children's Amphitheater and Discovery Garden Coming to Azalea Park

SUMMERVILLE, S.C.  – Summerville's Board of Architectural Review has given the green light for a new children's discovery garden and amphitheater to be built in Azalea Park. The decision came during the board's Tuesday night meeting.

The upcoming features include a turtle sculpture, mushroom steppingstones, musical pieces, an amphitheater, hopscotch, balance beams, wrapped tree benches, a walking trail, and plaques honoring donors and sponsors.

Residents can look forward to the completion of these new attractions by the end of this year.

The project was proposed by Leadership Dorchester, a program of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, which undertakes significant projects annually for the county. The idea was initially brought to this year's group by the Summerville Parks and Recreation Foundation, who believed it would be a fantastic addition to Azalea Park.

Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks, with a completion deadline of December 12. Leadership Dorchester is responsible for raising the necessary funds for the project. Those interested in donating can find more information on how to contribute online. Additionally, the group will host a garden stroll and a golf tournament to support the fundraising efforts.
