DD2 Delays First Day of School to Weds August 14th Due to Flooding Concerns

Dorchester District Two officials have announced that the first day of school will be delayed to Wednesday, August 14th, due to ongoing flooding and hazardous road conditions in the area. The decision was made following a joint press conference and emergency operations center leadership briefing held on Sunday, August 11th.

Although the Ashley River and Edisto River are no longer rising, continued rainfall and significant road closures have posed challenges for transportation within the school district. District leaders emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains the top priority, acknowledging the frustration this delay may cause for families.

The district's current plan includes the following updates:

  • First Day of School: Wednesday, August 14th.

  • High School Extracurricular Activities: Remain optional; students should contact their Athletic Director and coaches for specific details.

  • Middle School Athletics: Will not begin until school officially starts.

  • Workdays: Monday and Tuesday will be workdays for employees who have safe travel routes.

  • 7th and 8th Grade Meet the Teacher: Scheduled for Tuesday evening; principals will develop alternative plans for families unable to attend due to continued flooding.

District officials will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary. Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay informed and prioritize safety during this time.
