Dorchester County, S.C. - In a recent notification from the Dorchester County Government, the public was made aware of a scam involving an air duct cleaning company.
According to the notice, a nonresident with ties to Texas had been impersonating a legitimate air duct cleaning company out of Charleston and attempting to receive payment for services that had not yet been performed.
The incident reportedly occurred as a result of a post made in a local community Facebook group in unincorporated Dorchester County. The defendant had provided information that will enable the county to conduct further enforcement against such impersonators.
To avoid falling victim to such scams, the public is advised to be wary of posts made by individuals who have recently joined local Facebook groups. The county also recommends not contracting services with individuals you do not know and verifying the legitimacy of a business office before proceeding with any payments.
Additionally, residents are encouraged to ask for proof of a Dorchester County business license before engaging with any service provider. The absence of a valid business license could be a clear indication of fraudulent activity.
The Dorchester County Government has assured residents that they are taking steps to investigate and prevent such scams in the future. The public is advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
