Dorchester County Republican Party Chairman Files Ethics Complaint Against County Council Candidate Tommy Feagin

Dorchester County, SC – August 19, 2024 – The Dorchester County Republican Party Chairman has raised serious concerns about the transparency of an independent candidate running for County Council District 6. Steven Wright, Chairman of the Dorchester County Republican Party, filed an official complaint today with the South Carolina Ethics Commission against candidate Tommy Feagin for alleged violations of state ethics laws.

According to Wright, Feagin failed to properly disclose campaign contributions, including accepting at least $700 in anonymous donations. Under South Carolina law, candidates are required to submit an initial ethics report when they raise or spend a total of $500, including personal funds or loans to the campaign. The failure to file this report and the acceptance of anonymous contributions are both clear violations, Wright stated.

“Maintaining the integrity of our electoral system is of utmost importance," said Wright. "Whether Tommy Feagin's violations stem from complicity or ignorance of disclosure requirements, they raise serious questions about the transparency of his campaign and his fitness to serve. It is essential that all candidates adhere to the law and uphold transparency in their campaign finance practices. We trust that the South Carolina Ethics Commission will address these serious concerns with the scrutiny they warrant.”

The ethics complaint, which includes supporting documents (attached below), has been submitted to the South Carolina Ethics Commission for review. The attached evidence includes social media posts by Feagin, showing contributions that exceed the $500 threshold, and an online donor portal revealing anonymous donations.

The Dorchester County Republican Party Chairman is calling for a thorough investigation to ensure compliance with campaign finance laws and uphold the integrity of the election process.

Summerville News is reaching out to Mr Feagin for comment.
