Summerville, S.C. - Today at noon at the Summerville Country club businessman, author, and anti woke activist Vivek Ramaswamy spoke in front of an audience of local GOP activists and elected officials. The event is the first of a series of events the Dorchester GOP is planning to have as part of their "Sweet Tea Stop: Presidential Town Hall Series" where locals can hear from candidates and ask them questions.
Summerville area State Representative Gil Gatch introduced Ramaswamy saying that he had followed his work for years and read his book "Woke Inc" when it had first come out.
Ramaswamy is one of 3 announced candidates currently running for the Republican Party Presidential Nomination, Nikki Haley and former President Trump are the only other announced candidates but more are expected to announce in the coming months.
The audience of Republicans received Ramaswamy well, his speech had applause lines that had the crowd interested. Ramaswamy focused on what he called the 3 cults that are leading America to a national identity crisis, the cults of race, gender, and climate alarmism. As a son of Indian immigrants Ramaswamy spoke about how mainstream media dismisses ethnic minorities opinions who don't agree with the left wing's narrative. He spoke about using an Executive Order to undo President Lyndon B Johnson's Executive Order to end the mandatory affirmative action and hiring quotas required of companies that do business with the government, which he claimed is about 20% of the current workforce. On foreign policy Ramaswamy said that as a result of the Fentanyl crisis that claims 100,000 lives per year that his solution was to send in drone strikes into Mexico to wipe out the Mexican Drug Cartel.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador strongly opposed this in recent days and suggested that he may launch a public relations campaign against Republicans who supported military action against Mexico. He emphasized that Mexico will not permit any foreign government or armed forces to intervene in their territory. "We are not going to allow any foreign government to intervene and much less foreign armed forces to intervene in our territory," López Obrador stated in a recent speech.
We had wanted to ask Ramaswamy about whether he would seek Congressional approval for the military action as required in the Constitution, but unfortunately questions were extremely limited.
Overall Ramaswamy was well received by the Republican audience, he only answered about 4 questions from the audience as he seemed strapped for time but one question in particular shed light into his views on governing as President. An audience member asked "what will you do about Lindsey Graham or Mitch McConnell?", the audience member insinuating that Graham and McConnell would likely stand in the way of Conservative reforms presented by Ramaswamy. Vivek responded that if Congress wouldn't accept his proposals that he would simply go around them and accomplish all of his goals through Executive Order.
