Summerville Police Department Announces the Passing of Retired K-9 Ryu



Summerville, S.C. - The Summerville Police Department is mourning the loss of retired K-9 Ryu, who passed away recently. K-9 Ryu served as a dual-purpose Detection Canine from 2010 until 2016, working alongside his partner, Lt. Yangco, to keep the community safe.


During his career, K-9 Ryu was involved in numerous large-scale events, and his contribution to the Summerville Police Department was immeasurable. His tireless work ethic and unwavering loyalty to his handler and the department made him a valuable asset to the force.


"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Summerville Police K-9 Ryu," said the Summerville Police Department in a statement. "K-9 Ryu was a part of the Summerville Police Department and became a Man’s Best Friend while on and off duty. Thank you for your loyal and unwavering service, Ryu! You will be missed by all."


K-9 Ryu was not just a working dog, but a beloved member of the Summerville Police Department family. His passing is a significant loss, and the department wishes to express its deepest condolences to Lt. Yangco and everyone who knew and loved K-9 Ryu.


The Summerville Police Department is grateful for K-9 Ryu's dedicated service to the community and will forever be remembered for his contribution to public safety.
