Summerville Town Council to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Redistricting Plan

Summerville, S.C. - Residents of Summerville are encouraged to mark their calendars for an upcoming public hearing on a proposed ordinance that will approve and adopt a redistricting plan for the town's council districts. The public notice was published on February 16, 2023, with the hearing scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 6 pm in the Council Chambers at Summerville Town Hall located at 200 S. Main Street.

The purpose of the public hearing is to allow members of the community to provide feedback on the proposed redistricting plan, which will impact the boundaries of the town's council districts. The town council will review public input and consider making any necessary revisions to the proposed ordinance before taking a final vote on adoption.

Redistricting is a process that takes place every ten years following the U.S. Census. The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that the population of each council district is balanced and that each district has roughly the same number of residents. The goal is to create a fair representation of the town's population, so that each district has equal say in the decision-making process.

The redistricting plan for the Town of Summerville will determine which neighborhoods and areas will be included in each of the town's council districts. The proposed ordinance will be available for review at Summerville Town Hall and on the town's website.

The town council encourages residents to attend the public hearing on March 9th, and to share their thoughts on the proposed ordinance. The public hearing is an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas, and to help shape the future of Summerville.
