SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Two SWAT officers from the Summerville Police Department sustained injuries during a drug-related search operation.
On Friday, July 26, around 6 a.m., SWAT was deployed to a residence on North Maple Street in Summerville, South Carolina, due to suspicions of firearms and illegal drugs being present at the location.
When SWAT team members identified themselves and began knocking on the door, suspects inside fired through the wall, injuring two officers with shrapnel. The injured officers were attended to by EMS on the scene, according to authorities.
James Joseph Johnson was subsequently arrested and faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of body armor by a felon, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The search uncovered several firearms, one of which was reported stolen, along with illegal narcotics, officials reported.
Johnson is currently being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center, as per SPD.
