Metal Detectors Implemented at All DD2 High Schools

Dorchester County, S.C. - Today DD2 is beginning the use of metal detectors at our 3 high schools and one is already in service at our alternative school, Dr. Robbins said today. To make the most out of the morning, DD2 conducted a drill on the “Hold” portion of our standard response protocol. According to DD2, the “Hold” protocol is not utilized due to a serious threat, rather, it is designed to keep the hallways clear for a variety of reasons.

You may have noticed high school students lined up outside school buildings as they pass through the metal detectors. Some confusion was created among parents as students began texting them this morning. One report indicated that staff was also searching all backpacks at Ashley Ridge High School.

Dr. Robbins said again today that DD2 "takes the safety of children and loved ones seriously and the only way we can become effective with our protocols is to practice and drill. Together we can make a difference."
